POL 1150 Introduction to Sustainability

(formerly POL 115)

Students will be introduced to a broad range of human activities that are either sustainable or unsustainable. Personal attitudes, business decisions and governmental policies that encourage or discourage sustainable practices will be examined. Sustainability will be defined and applied to current issues such as: renewable energy systems including solar, wind, geothermal and other emerging technologies; consumer products; green buildings; recycling; and toxins in the environment. This class will take a holistic view of how individuals, governments, economy and the environment interact. Includes moral valuation of economic viability and social equity.
