ASL 1060 Sign Language Languages for the Health Professionals I
(formerly ASL 106)
This course focuses on the development of basic communicative proficiency in American Sign Language for healthcare professionals. In addition to communication skills, students will gain knowledge and understanding of: the causes of deafness; deaf culture; communication strategies to enhance visual communication; and signing with patients who are deaf and have other disabilities such as deaf-blindness. This course is intended for students who have previous experiences with the language and/or have taken ASL 1010 and/or ASL 1020. NOTE: Students who took SLP 2750 or SLP 2760 should consult with the Chair of the Department of Languages and Culture for placement.
