SPAN 331 Spanish American Civilization
This class is an introduction to the individuals, cultures, histories and geographies that form the region broadly designated as “Latin America,” designed to reveal its immense diversity. This diversity is covered in part by getting acquainted with specific countries through an interdisciplinary approach. By examining different types of scholarship on Latin America as well as by exploring cultural manifestations produced within the region, students are exposed to numerous ways to think about Latin American cultures and societies, and observe how Latin American artists, writers and others represent their nations and cultures. Crucial as well for our course will be the question of ethics, and how ethical principles can help us explore different aspects of Latin America.
