Nursing: Associate of Science

New criteria is related to students incoming for the 2023-2024 Academic Year, the first semester of which is Fall 2023. 

All information listed below is related to admission into the 2022-2023 Academic Year.

In order to be accepted into the Associate of Science in Nursing program, applicants must meet the Application Requirements for All Programs, the General Admission Criteria for All Programs, and the program-specific criteria and requirements listed below.

Requirements are dependent upon the applicant's level of education, as outlined below. Some applicants will be required to take the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) for acceptance or course placement, based on their GPA. The TEAS will be offered to these applicants on campus at Labouré College of Healthcare or virtually at no additional charge. 

 

High School Students or Graduates with No College Experience

Applicants who are currently in high school, or applicants who have never taken any courses for college credit after high school and have graduated from high school within the last five years. If you graduated more than 5 years ago, and have no college experience, please review the section marked with an **.

High School Students or Graduates with No College Experience Admission Criteria

  • General Admission Criteria for All Programs
  • Mathematics: two years with a final grade of C or higher
  • Science: one year of laboratory sciences (Biology or Chemistry) with a final grade of C or higher
  • SAT, ACT or TEAS scores meeting minimum thresholds (contact Admissions for details)

High School Students or Graduates with No College Experience Application Requirements

  • Application Requirements for All Programs
    • Submit the most recent official high school transcript at the time of application
    • If accepted, a final transcript must be provided at least two weeks prior to the start of their accepted semester
  • Submit SAT or ACT scores
    • Students who do not have SAT or ACT scores, or whose SAT or ACT scores do not meet the minimum thresholds may be required to take the TEAS as an entry test

**Applicants who graduated high school over five years ago who have no college experience will be required to have the following college course work completed or take the courses at Labouré in the semester prior to their acceptance: 

  • Mathematics: one 3-credit college-level, non-developmental mathematics class (i.e. College Algebra or Statistics) with a final grade of C or higher
  • Science: one 4-credit college level life science course with accompanying laboratory, with a final grade of C or higher

TEAS Test Requirement for High School Students or Graduates with No College Experience

All high school students or graduates with no college experience whose SAT or ACT scores do not meet the minimum threshold will be required to take the TEAS as an entrance exam at Labouré free of charge prior to acceptance. Tests are proctored online. 

Students who are not required to take the TEAS as an entrance exam will be required to take the TEAS exam for placement after matriculating at Labouré. Test scores determine required participation in the DSN program. For further information about the DSN program, please contact the Student Success Center at StudentSuccess@laboure.edu. The DSN Program costs can be found in the Tuition and Fees Section. To test out of the DSN program, the minimum scores required are: 69% on the Reading section, 60% on the English and Language Usage section, 45% on the Science section, and 63% on the Math section. The Student Success Center will send information about testing dates during the student's first semester of enrollment. The test must be taken according to the schedule; failure to test by the deadline will change the student's progression map and Nursing course start semester. 

Accepted students with a cumulative GPA between a 2.0 and 2.99 will also be required to participate in the My Academic Plan (MAP) program. There is no charge for MAP. The goals of the program are to provide resources and strategies for academic success unique to the program at Labouré. Read more about MAP here

General Education Degree (GED) Holders or High School Equivalency Test (HiSET) Completers with No College Experience 

Applicants who earned their high school equivalency more than 5 years ago and have no college experience, please review the section marked with an ++.

GED or HiSET Completers with No College Experience Admission Criteria

    • Students who do not have SAT or ACT scores, or whose SAT or ACT scores do not meet the minimum thresholds may be required to take the TEAS as an entry test

Transfer Students Without a Bachelor, Master, or Doctoral Degree

Applicants who have completed college courses outside of high school, but have not completed a bachelor, master, or doctoral degree. Associate degree holders are included in this category. 

Transfer Students Without a Bachelor, Master, or Doctoral Degree Admission Criteria

  • General Admission Criteria for All Programs
  • Mathematics: one 3-credit college-level, non-developmental mathematics class (i.e. College Algebra or Statistics) with a final grade of C or higher.
    *LPN graduates of board approved vocational technical nursing programs will be reviewed individually for non-developmental math equivalency
  • Science: one 4-credit college-level life science course with accompanying laboratory, with a final grade of C or higher
  • Applicants with a cumulative GPA between a 2.0 and 2.49 will be required to take the TEAS exam through Labouré as an entry test and must earn the minimum score as outlined in the requirements below. The test is proctored online and there is no charge to take the test through Labouré. The minimum scores needed are a 69% on the Reading section, and a 60% on the English and Language Usage section. Applicants meeting this criteria will be notified by the Department of Admissions. The TEAS will be waived for applicants who are current Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) accepted into the LPN-RN track of the Associate of Science in Nursing program. 

Transfer Students Without a Bachelor, Master, or Doctoral Degree Application Requirements

  • Application Requirements for All Programs
  • Applicants with a cumulative GPA between a 2.0 and 2.49 will take the TEAS as an entry test at Labouré free of charge as part of their application requirements. Tests are proctored online. The minimum scores needed are a 69% on the Reading section, and a 60% on the English and Language Usage section. Applicants meeting this criteria will be notified by the Department of Admissions.

  • Mathematics: one 3-credit college-level, non-developmental mathematics class (i.e. College Algebra or Statistics) with a final grade of C or higher
  • Science: one 4-credit college-level life science course with accompanying laboratory, with a final grade of C or higher

Bachelor's Degree Holders Application Requirements

Accepted students may request a My Academic Plan (MAP) and are required to meet with their assigned academic advisor at least two weeks before beginning their first semester. 

 

Master's or Doctoral Degree Holders

  • GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Mathematics: one 3-credit college-level, non-developmental mathematics class (i.e. College Algebra or Statistics) with a final grade of C or higher
  • Science: one 4-credit college-level life science course with accompanying laboratory, with a final grade of C or higher

Master's or Doctoral Degree Holders Application Requirements
