NUR 348 Mental Health & Pharmacology Nursing Theory

Theories and concepts related to human behavior and promotion, maintenance, and restoration of mental health of individuals and families are presented within the framework of the nursing process. Critical thinking, communication, self-awareness, and therapeutic use of self are emphasized as students explore issues in psychiatric/mental health nursing and psychopharmacotherapeutics. Legal and ethical dilemmas are addressed, especially in relation to acute psychopathology. Importance is placed on the professional nursing role, use of holistic practice, and the nursing process in the care of clients with alterations in mental health.  Co-requisite: NUR 333
