NUR 584 Foundations of Nursing Informatics

In this course, a foundational understanding of nursing informatics as an advanced nursing specialty will be discussed, including the history and evolution of nursing informatics, theory, and the scope and standards. Learners will facilitate seminar discussions of foundational and contemporary legal, regulatory, social, and ethical issues in the field of informatics. Following critical appraisal of the literature, learners will create an evidence-based presentation proposal focused on staff development related to informatics continuing education and competency development. As a collaborative team member, learners will reflect and peer review team performance related to the effectiveness of communication strategies, team building and accountability, and conflict management and resolution. Finally, the learner will reflect on the art of caring in technology-laden environments, and envision the future of nursing informatics.
