Research Courses

Approved Research Intensive (RI) courses will be designated with a RI.

Accepted academic standards for RI courses are defined as those that demonstrate the four following pedagogical characteristics:

  1. Use of primary literature, primary sources, original work, etc. in lieu of a textbook or other secondary source material.
  2. Student conducts original research or creates original work product(s) as majority of grade earned/assignments in course.
  3. Student submission of course work product(s) for oral presentation, poster, performance, and publication at a public forum (on campus to international meeting).
  4. Major emphasis on instruction in research methods.
