SOC 450 Sociological Theory

A critical exploration and explanation ofclassical and contemporary social theory. Thecourse includes consideration of the historicaland cultural contexts in which social theoristslived and how their life experiences shaped theirexplanations, in an effort to understand how andwhy our social theories and concepts emerge andchange. Students will develop an appreciation ofthe integral, ongoing role of theorization andconceptualization in their own everyday lives, aswell as practical, critical-analytical skills inapplying social theory to the personal andprofessional lives of themselves and others.
