INB 700 Corporate and Global Strategy

This course covers the theory and practice ofbuilding and implementing strategies for gainingcompetitive advantage in the global businessenvironment. Emphasis is placed on weighing therisks and rewards of different feasible coursesof action by thinking through the chain of causeand effect of each alternative. Students willmaster the theoretical body of knowledge instrategic management as it applies tointernational business. This includes how theconcepts of both the classical strategic thinkersand contemporary strategists (e.g. Mintzberg,Prahalad). Students will acclimate their minds tocritical analysis as they apply theoreticalstrategic concepts to actual cases in today'sdynamic and challenging internationalenvironment. Students will develop a deepunderstanding of the four major interconnectinglevels of corporate policy, strategy, operationsand tactics. Also, they will appreciate thecritical role in strategic thinking of phenomenasuch as paradigm shifts, risk management,innovation, as well as relevant strategicmilitary corollaries of war. Concepts taught atthe MBA level will be extended so that netassessments will include the intangibles such asa competitor's genius and his (her) will to win.Lastly, students will gain a capital appreciationthat strategic thinking is of utmost importanceand is highly relevant to success in modernbusiness.
