HIST 402 The New South
Since 1865, several versions of what the "NewSouth" is or ought to be have been promoted in thefollowing: reconstruction, redemption, populism,desegregation, progressivism, the New Deal, andthe civil rights movement. Historians have manycontrasting views of these successive images,emphasizing that much is "new" but maybe not"southern" about the "New South." These differingviews will be analyzed.
