MECN 4710 Fluid Mechanics and Thermal Science Laboratory

Development of skills and basic techniques of mechanical engineering laboratory. Emphasis on safety rules, measurement systems, statistical methods and the proper use of laboratory equipment. Application of laboratory techniques for the analysis of volume or mass flow, pressure center and stability in floating bodies. Flow measurement through the application of the Bernoulli equation, losses in pipes, centrifugal pumps. Use of experimental methods for the calculation of enthalpy of water phase change and water specific heat. Experimental practice in heat exchangers. Application of experimental techniques for different heat transfer mechanisms. Emphasis on refrigeration techniques and gas turbines. It requires 45 hours of laboratory.
