HIST 5375 History of the Middle Ages
Study of the creation of Europe from thefusion of the Roman world with the frontier cultures of northern Europe. Emphasis will beplaced on the social and political evolution of the region from 400-1300 with attention to such topics as the rise of new technology, the impact of the Roman Catholic Church on society, the Crusades against Islam, and the ethos ofchivalry as evidence of the emergence of a new expansionist civilization.
