GEOL 3310 Geochemistry

This course provides an introduction to geochemistry for the undergraduate geology student. The course introduces essential geochemical tools of thermodynamics and kinetics, aquatic chemistry, isotope geochemistry, and trace element geochemistry. In addition, the course will explore the Earth from a geochemical perspective. Topics such as formation of the elements, formation of the Earth and Solar System, evolution of the lithosphere and mantle, weathering of minerals, stream chemistry, and ocean chemistry will be studied. Prerequisite: one year of general chemistry, GEOL 1103, 1303, 2410, or consent of instructor. Spring (odd years).
