PSYC 2101 Undergraduate Seminar in Psychology
This course will offer students an introduction tobasic skills and and knowledge that will be essential for their success in upper-level psychology courses. The course will be divided into three learning modules. In module 1,students will be introduced to the profession of psychologysubcategories of the professon,acedemic and training requirements for licensure and employmentand decision-making regarding their own professional development. In module 2, the focus will be on the science of psychology, with anemphasis on develping a basic understanding of quantitative and qualitative research, use ofstatistical analysis and APA-style research writing. Module 3 will allow the student to demonstrate basic computer skills to produce a brief APA-style paper and presentation. This module will include basic word processing skills, spreadsheet and/or database,internet resources forresearch and visual presentation using PowerPoint.Students who do not demonstrate a competence in these areas will be required to take CSCI 1301. The course will be required of all psychologymajors prior to their enrollment in any upper- level psychology courses. Transfer students may take the course concurrently with 1301 or with their first upper-level course. The course will belimited to psychology majors. Minors may be admitted with permission of instructor.
