Program Distinctives

The MSN program builds on the knowledge and competencies of baccalaureate education and experience as a practicing nurse and prepares the graduate to be a nurse administrator or nurse educator. The program can be completed in 2 years. The nursing courses must be completed in 6 years.
Students must be admitted to the university before applying to the nursing program. MSN students must have an active unencumbered RN license in the state in which they will complete practice learning experiences/practicums.
Admission to the nursing program is based on nursing admission criteria at the time of application to the program. Admission requirements to the MSN program include an application to the program, a bachelor’s degree in nursing with a minimum GPA of 3.0 from an ACEN, CNEA, or CCNE accredited program, 3 references, 1 year of experience as a RN recommended, and a current unencumbered RN license. Registered nurses with a bachelor’s degree in another field will be evaluated on an individual basis and additional coursework may be required. Applicants who have completed graduate level courses from an ACEN/CNEA/CCNE accredited program may be awarded credit on course by course basis. Only 6 credit hours can be transferred.
Students must pass all courses within the MSN program with a grade of “B-“ or better to continue in the program. MSN students must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 to continue and complete program.
MSN students must submit a completed nursing health form signed by their health care provider, verify specific immunizations, obtain a criminal background check, submit documentation of a current negative drug screen, submit proof of health insurance coverage, and complete an approved CPR course prior to beginning any practicum experience. Malpractice insurance is provided through the university.

Master of Science in Nursing (MSN)
The purpose of the Master of Science in Nursing for Nurse Educators - Administrators is to facilitate career preparation in a Christian liberal arts setting at the graduate level of nursing, enabling nurses to develop skills for nursing education or administration. The MSN graduate is expected to exhibit nursing judgment, along with facilitating effective decision making and communication, that promotes excellence in holistic patient/family-centered care in academic, administrative, and/or clinical settings. The MSN graduate creates evidence-based practice/research, integrates informatics to support quality improvement, and exemplifies nursing behaviors of leadership and professionalism. The MSN graduate has a foundation for doctoral education in nursing.
