Cyber Security (For Non-Majors), Minor
The purpose of the minor in Cybersecurity is to allow students majoring in UTRGV programs other than Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity to get familiar with the important and growing field of cyber security which impacts almost every aspect of our society and life. The minor in Cybersecurity aligns with and supports the mission of The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley and The College of Engineering and Computer Science by promoting secured innovative and accessible educational environment for student success, research, creative works and community engagement. This is accomplished by providing students with the knowledge of cyber security tools, practices, and procedures to engage in secured computing and communication.
Minor Requirements - 23 Hours
Required Courses - 17 Hours
Prescribed Electives - 6 Hours
A minimum of 18 hours of courses not applied towards other degree programs are required for earning a minor in Cybersecurity. Additional approved CYBI 3XXX/4XXX courses need to be taken if some of the required courses are overlapping with other degree programs.
Minor Admission Requirements
1. The student have completed MATH 2412 with a grade of C or better.
2. Students must complete an application to be accepted into the program. The application is available on https://www.utrgv.edu/cyberspace.
Progression Requirements
1. CSCI 1101, CSCI 1170, CYBI 2322, CSCI 2380, and CSCI 2344 must be completed with a C or better prior to enrolling in CSCI 4345 or the CYBI advanced electives.
2. Students must progress through the program as indicated on the program flowchart. The flowchart is available on https://www.utrgv.edu/cyberspace.
Graduation Requirements:
1. Completion of the minor requires a grade of C or better in CSCI 1101, CSCI 1170, CSCI 1370, CYBI 2322, CSCI 2380, and CSCI 2344.
