Tuition for Same or Substantively Identical Courses
Students enrolling in a course that is the same as or substantively identical to a course previously attempted will be charged an additional $250 per credit hour for the repeated course(s) beginning with the third attempt. The “three-attempt rule” applies to all undergraduate students paying in-state tuition, including those non-resident students receiving waivers to pay in-state tuition. Any courses taken at the institution Fall 2002 or later will be considered in calculation of this fee with the exception of courses defined as exempt from this rule by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board in Title 19 of the Texas Administrative Code section 13.106.
Students in their final semester leading up to graduation, who must repeat one or more previously completed courses for the third or greater time in order to meet graduation requirements will be exempt from paying the higher tuition for the repeated course(s) for one semester. Students who wish to apply for this exemption, or other students who wish to appeal the charges due to extenuating circumstances, should submit a written letter of appeal online and attach supporting documentation through the UTRGV Strategic Enrollment and Student Affairs appeals portal.
