Exercise Science, Bachelor of Science
This program leads to a profession which requires an occupational license as defined under Texas Occupations Code 58.001. This requires that all applicants seeking to become licensed must undergo a criminal background check prior to licensure.
The Department of Health and Human Performance has a focus on preparing Exercise Science majors to function professionally in a changing and diverse society, and to improve the quality of life through the understanding, delivering and promotion of health, physical activity, and wellness.

Core Curriculum Requirements – 42 Hours
Students must fulfill the Core Curriculum requirements. The courses listed below satisfy both degree requirements and Core Curriculum requirements.
Life and Physical Science – 6 hours
Social and Behavioral Sciences – 3 hours
Integrative and Experiential Learning – 2 hours
Major Requirements – 78 Hours (42 advanced minimum)
Exercise Science Core – 38 hours (35 advanced)

Students who do not choose Option I or Option II above must complete 40 hours of free electives, of which 7 must be advanced. Hours can be used to complete a minor and/or second major.

Admission, Progression, And Graduation Requirements, if applicable:
Admission requirements
- Students will be required to have an overall 2.75 minimum GPA following second semester of Undergraduate course work and a minimum grade of B in BIOL 2401 Anatomy and Physiology I and BIOL 2402 Anatomy and Physiology II in order to transfer to the Exercise Science major. If admitted to the Exercise Science major, students are required to maintain a 2.75 GPA in their Core courses to remain in the program. Students who do not maintain this GPA will be placed on academic probation one semester. If they do not meet the criteria after one semester, they will be dismissed from the program.
Progression requirements
- A grade of ‘C’ or better must be maintained in all advanced coursework.
