Program Design
The USU Multiple Subject and Single Subject Credential Programs are designed and implemented based on the CSTP and the California TPEs established by the CTC. These frameworks guide candidate preparation by establishing expectations for effective teaching practice, professional growth, and continuous improvement.
Throughout the program, candidates engage in:
- Reflective practice focused on analyzing student learning, instructional decisions, and the impact of teaching practices on diverse learners
- Development of professional goals that support continuous improvement of teaching effectiveness and alignment with professional standards
- Ongoing assessment and monitoring of teaching practice through feedback, self-reflection, coaching, and evidence-based evaluation aligned with professional expectations and benchmarks
The USU Credential Programs prepare educators for the demands of the 21st-century learning environment by developing teachers who:
- Are knowledgeable and informed educators who understand current educational research, instructional strategies, and the needs of diverse learners
- Demonstrate effective written and oral communication skills to support collaboration, instruction, and professional responsibilities
- Possess a strong understanding of content knowledge and curriculum standards necessary to design meaningful and rigorous learning experiences
- Recognize the critical role of literacy and reading development in supporting student achievement across content areas
- Apply critical thinking and problem-solving skills to make informed instructional decisions and address the complex needs of today’s learners
Through alignment with the CSTP and TPEs, USU prepares credential candidates to become reflective and equity-focused educators who are prepared to support student success in California’s diverse classrooms.
