Associate of Applied Science Degrees
Associate of Applied Science (AAS)
The Associate of Applied Science degree is awarded to students in career technical education (CTE) programs who meet the requirements listed below. Many career technical programs require more than 90 credits for an associate degree. See specific program requirements in the degree programs following this section of the catalog.
All AAS candidates must complete a program of approved course work in the major field.
Associate of Applied Science Requirements
The Associate of Applied Associate degree is designed for students wishing to acquire a terminal degree in a Career and Technical Education field. These degrees are not designed for transfer and consist of courses that allow a student to develop mastery in a content area that leads to living wage employment upon graduation.
Unless otherwise noted, the following apply;
- Complete all courses with a minimum grade of "D" or "Pass" or better. Students must have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 at the time the AAS is awarded.
- General Education courses must include;
- Writing (4CR): WR 121
- Oral Communication (3CR+): COMM 111
- Math (4CR+): MTH 105 or higher
- Information Literacy: embedded within WR course
- Arts & Letters/Humanities (may count Oral Communication): 3 credits (e.g. ART, COMM, ENG, MUS, REL, PHL or Foreign Language)
- Social Science: 3 credits (e.g. PSY, SOC, PS, HST, or ECON)
- Science/Math/Computer Science: 3 credits (e.g. MTH, CS, BI, G, GS, GEO, CHEM, PHY)
- Human Relations: PSY 101 or BA 285
- A Maximum of 24 credits can be "P" grades
- A Maximum of 21 credits can be from Credit for Prior Learning (CPL)
- Electives must be used to bring the program of study up to a minimum of 90 credits, and a maximum of 108
- 30 credits are required to meet residency at TBCC, 24 of which must apply to the degree for which the student is being awarded.
