NSG 130 Foundations of Nursing Practice

This course introduces LPN students to what it means to be a member of the profession of nursing along with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes that underpin nursing practice. Throughout the course students are introduced to scholarly writing, drug dosage calculations, NCLEX-style evaluation methods, concepts related to nursing practice and evidenced-based care: including basic human needs, the health-illness continuum, care planning, growth and development theories, communication, and patient rights.  Students examine their individual learning style and ability to think critically and apply this knowledge to develop a personal strategy for success in the nursing program. Students are introduced to the nursing process and learn to demonstrate basic nursing practice using psychomotor, cognitive, and affective skills; assessment; and professional communication skills in a laboratory setting. This course includes NCLEX preparation fee, testing fee, and a lab fee. Prerequisites: NSG115 (experiential LPN credit), MED110, MED210, ENG111, PSY110, MAT111 or higher, SCI250 with a B- or higher.
