Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) Programs
The ROTC programs in Aerospace Studies (Air Force ROTC), Military Science (Army ROTC), and Naval Science (Naval ROTC) at Southern University are electives. These programs are designed to provide young men and women opportunities to become commissioned officers in the United States Air Force, Army, Navy, and Marine Corps while earning an academic degree. The purpose of these programs is to develop men and women who can apply their education to initial active duty assignments as commissioned officers in the United States Armed Forces. These programs prepare qualified students to assume positions of increased responsibility and importance in the military profession. In order to receive a commission, ROTC Cadets and Midshipmen must complete all requirements for a degree according to University rules and regulations and must complete the curriculums specified by the respective ROTC programs.
Army and Naval ROTC programs are hosted by Southern University and A&M College. The Army ROTC program is available to Southeastern Louisiana University, Baton Rouge Community College (BRCC), and Northshore Technical Community College students. The Naval ROTC program is available to LSU, Southeastern Louisiana University, and BRCC students. This is achieved through a cross-enrollment agreement between Southern University and their respective institutions. Southern University students may participate in the Air Force ROTC program housed at Louisiana State University through a cross-enrollment agreement between Southern University and LSU.
