Examination and Remediation Policy
HESI Examination and Remediation Policy (Active until May 2026 for current student cohort)
The Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) Program at Ogeechee Technical College utilizes HESI exams throughout the curriculum to assess students’ progress, identify strengths and weaknesses, and guide remediation. These exams are used as a formative evaluation tool and are designed to support student readiness for the NCLEX-RN.
Course-Level HESI Exams
In each of the core nursing courses, students are administered a corresponding HESI exam to assess course-related content mastery.
- Students are provided two (2) attempts per HESI exam.
- The highest score of the two attempts is recorded in the course gradebook.
- Students are not required to achieve a minimum score to pass the course.
- All students must complete HESI remediation using the assigned HESI specialty packets and case studies regardless of their score.
- Remediation must be completed by the designated due date set by course faculty in order to be eligible for the second attempt (if applicable).
Senior Seminar and NCLEX Preparation – HESI Exit Exam (RNSG 1610)
To support NCLEX readiness, students will complete the HESI RN Exit Exam during the final course of the program (RNSG 1610: Senior Seminar and NCLEX Prep).
- Students are allowed up to four (4) attempts to take the HESI Exit Exam.
- The highest score achieved across the four attempts will be recorded in the gradebook.
- If a student does not score an 850 or higher, they are required to continue their attempts until this score is achieved.
- If this score is not achieved by the last attempt, the highest score will be placed in the gradebook.
Remediation Requirements for Exit Exam
- All students must complete HESI remediation following the first attempt using individualized resources provided by the testing platform, including the provided essential packets and case studies.
- If a score of 850 or higher is not achieved, students must complete additional remediation prior to each subsequent attempt.
- Failure to complete remediation by the assigned deadlines will result in ineligibility to retest.
ATI Examination and Remediation Policy (Effective beginning with the Spring 2026 Cohort)
The Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) Program at Ogeechee Technical College utilizes ATI exams throughout the curriculum to assess students’ progress, identify strengths and weaknesses, and guide remediation. These exams are used as a formative evaluation tool and are designed to support student readiness for the NCLEX-RN.
ATI Content Mastery Series (CMS) Examination and Remediation Policy
To support course success and NCLEX-RN readiness, the Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) Program uses the ATI Content Mastery Series (CMS) examinations in each core nursing course. These standardized assessments measure mastery of course-specific content and provide students with targeted remediation resources to strengthen knowledge and clinical judgment.
CMS Exam Requirements
- A corresponding ATI CMS exam will be administered in each major nursing course.
- CMS exams account for 10% of the final course grade.
- Students must complete all assigned remediation activities to remain eligible for full CMS credit.
CMS Exam Scoring and Grade Conversion

Retesting:
- Retest grades will replace the original level-based scoring.
- Retesting is only allowed if remediation is completed and approved by course faculty.
- Failure to complete remediation → ineligible to retest and grade penalty applies per table above.
Academic Integrity
Students must comply with testing security policies established by ATI and the Nursing Program. Any violation will be managed under the ASN Academic Integrity and Honesty Policy in Section V of this Handbook.
Course Progression
Failure to complete CMS testing and remediation requirements may result in:
- A loss of all CMS exam credit (10% of course grade)
- Course failure due to inability to meet evaluation criteria
ATI Comprehensive Predictor Examination Policy
(Effective for students admitted Spring 2026 and forward)
To support NCLEX-RN readiness and evaluate cumulative program learning outcomes, students in RNSG 1610: Senior Seminar and NCLEX Preparation will complete the ATI Comprehensive Predictor examination. This standardized exit assessment measures overall mastery of nursing knowledge and predicts the probability of passing the NCLEX-RN on the first attempt.
This ATI testing policy applies to all students admitted beginning Spring 2026. Students admitted prior to this date will remain under the HESI Exit Exam policy.
Exam Attempts
- Students are permitted up to four (4) attempts during the course.
- The highest probability score achieved across all attempts will be recorded in the gradebook.
Grade Weight
- The ATI Comprehensive Predictor is weighted as 20% of the RNSG 1610 final course grade, based on performance level achieved on the first attempt.
Scoring and Grade Conversion

Course Progression & Graduation Eligibility
Successful completion of the ATI Comprehensive Predictor, including all remediation requirements, is required to:
- Earn the 20% exam grade portion of the course
- Demonstrate exit-level competency for NCLEX preparation
- Meet program completion requirements
Failure to complete testing and remediation requirements may result in course failure and delayed program completion.
Note on Licensure Preparation
Students below benchmark after their final attempt will receive a structured NCLEX study plan to support successful first-time licensure exam completion.
