HIS 4019 WORLD WAR I, 1914-1919
The First World War transformed the face of the globe and nearly every human profession and academic discipline. In this seminar we will assess just how seminal this global conflict was for human history and for your major’s/profession’s development. Each week students will discuss readings covering the conflict’s dimensions on and off the battlefield. These dialogues will prepare participants to analyze and present on World War I memoirs and secondary literature of their choosing, and to compose a research paper that explores how the global conflagration and its months-long peace process altered practices and concepts in their chosen career. In so doing, undergraduates will acquire greater appreciation for why this war has cast such a looming shadow on modern developments.
