CRI 2350 CYBERLAW, CYBERCRIME, AND DIGITAL RIGHTS
This course addresses how emerging technologies challenge existing laws, responses of the CJS, and criminal procedures in terms of how crimes involving these technologies are defined and investigated. In addition, students will explore state and federal laws and investigate processes available for cybercrime investigations. In particular, the course will present and review how, and if, current laws are equipped to address this new avenue to criminal activity and threat to global security. Topics may include such issues as digital search and seizure of data from the crime scene; hacking and unauthorized access; computer use in traditional crimes like financial fraud, drug trafficking, identity theft and online fraud; censorship, free speech, privacy and digital rights.
