ART 2220 Medical Humanities Through the Ages: Art History and the Human Condition
This course is an interdisciplinary introduction to the art and material culture of anatomy, mortality, and death from Ancient Egypt to the present, taking into account the history, culture, and practice of both the Western and non-Western world. The content is intended to appeal to undergraduates interested in both art history and a variety of medical careers. In recent years medical humanities has emerged as an important new area of interdisciplinary study, focusing on images and art objects in its enquiry into the culture of medicine while providing insight into the human condition through its interpretations of the human body as a historical perspective on pathos, mortality, burial and death. Fulfills General Education Art History requirement.
