Communication Sciences and Disorders Program Ph.D.
The doctoral program in Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) is committed to graduating CSD academics who will be well-rounded mentors, interdisciplinary researchers, passionate educators and dedicated leaders to future professionals in the field of CSD. Students in the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) program learn to conduct original interdisciplinary research, and know how to teach the application of this cutting-edge work to future professionals.
In alignment with our Scholarship of Teaching and Learning model (SoTL; Boyer 1990; Friberg, Ginsberg, Cardinale-Dudding, Quach, & Smith-Olinde, 2014), our curriculum is designed to implement teaching in practice as well as in theoretical coursework to ensure quality learning and exposure to best practice in higher education. Another important focus of the program will be to foster interdisciplinary work across a variety of related fields. Given the interdisciplinary nature of the profession, collaboration with Nursing, Education, Psychology, Mental Health, Social Work, Biology etc. is expected to enhance the doctoral experience and contributes to the unique nature of the Molloy University program in comparison to the other doctoral programs in the tri-state area. Graduate students will learn to investigate theoretical questions with a translational and clinical focus.
The need for diverse researchers and educators in CSD is urgent and long standing. Our Ph.D. program in CSD is dedicated to recruiting conventionally underrepresented students in academia and in CSD. Students will be encouraged to create career goals and evaluate them so that their doctoral experience can be designed to meet their future career needs within the scope of the our program. They will be provided with a diverse experience that help them to become versatile scholars in the field.
