Graduate Program Admission Requirements

The college seeks to admit graduate students who show evidence of being able to succeed in and benefit from academic programs of the rigor offered. Minimum qualifications for admission consideration at the graduate level are shared below. Individual programs, however, set their own GPA requirements and often require additional materials for admission consideration beyond those listed here:

  1. Submission of a completed online application
  2. Earned baccalaureate degree or higher from a college or university recognized by the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC) Western Association of Schools and Colleges, Higher Learning Commission (HLC), Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE), New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE), Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU), Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC), WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC) or an international university deemed to have equivalent credentials as determined by one of our pre-approved foreign institution evaluation servicers.
  3. Official final transcripts from all colleges attended.

Applicants are encouraged to refer to the individual program sections of this catalog for clarification on graduate program-specific admission requirements.

International Student Admission Requirements

  1. Applicants who are citizens of other countries must provide the following materials in addition to the application documents outlined above.:

  1. Evidence of English language proficiency from an internationally recognized standardized exam. Any one of the following is considered acceptable:
    1. Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL): 53 or better on the internet-based TOEFL. To obtain information on registering for a TOEFL exam, please call 609-771-7100 or visit the website, http://www.toefl.org. Marietta College’s institutional TOEFL code is 1444.
    2. International Language Testing System (IELTS): Band 5.5 or higher and at least a 5.0 in all sub-areas.
    3. Cambridge Proficiency Examination (CPE): Grade C or higher; or Cambridge Advanced English (CAE): Grade B or higher; or First Certificate Exam (FCE): Grade A.
    4. Duolingo English test with a score of 85 or better.
  2. Verification of Ability to Pay: International students must provide an official financial statement that indicates the applicant can pay all fees, including the cost of tuition, room, board, fees, books, and spending money for one full year (two semesters). The statement must be signed by a bank official, official sponsor, or both. Marietta College offers limited financial assistance to entering international students. After one semester or one year of academic residence, international students with academic distinction will be eligible for academic scholarships.
