HIST 119 The Ancient World

This is an introductory level course to world civilizations that follows the story of the human race from its murky origins into the first millennium of the Common Era. The focus of this course will be on the development of civilizations, belief systems (philosophies and religions), empires, and interactions among various peoples and states. The range of topics and themes in the course will extend through political, intellectual, social, literary, economic, and ecological history.
