GEOL 303 Mineralogy & Optical Mineralogy

This course will provide a comprehensive study of the formation, classification and identification of minerals on Earth.  The course will focus on, mineral hand sample identification, crystal chemistry, and crystallography, after which optical mineralogy will be introduced.  The weekly three-hour laboratory includes hands-on analysis of minerals, identification using a petrographic microscope, and analyses of mineral structures utilizing imaging software.

Complete GEOL 111, GEOL 101, or GEOL 102; and CHEM 131 / CHEM 133 (may be taken concurrently)
