From the President
Congratulations on your decision to pursue graduate study at Marietta College. I hope that you find your studies to be fulfilling both personally and professionally. Advancing your thinking and deepening your perspective through advanced study will yield many rewards in the years ahead.
A college’s distinct value rests upon and is measured by its ability to fulfill its Mission. Since its founding in 1835 the College has been recognized as one of the outstanding educational institutions in the United States. We retain the original goal of educating students in “the various branches of useful knowledge.” Today that means that we educate broadly with a contemporary eye on preparation for a wide variety of careers. As you review Marietta’s Seven Core Values that are listed on the next page it will become clear that we espouse both depth and breadth of learning that encourages productive engagement with community with the aim to advance society. These goals are aspirational, and you will see them evidenced in the learning you will experience here.
Now that you have made the purposeful decision to continue your education, I encourage you to embrace every possible opportunity to explore new ideas. Your ability to incorporate and synthesize these ideas into new learning is unique to you – no one can see the world as you can, through your perspective informed by your past learning and your experience. The new knowledge that you bring to the table will change our world. Allow yourself to be inspired. Inspire others.
I wish you success in your studies and look forward to celebrating your learning milestones.
