Marietta College distinguishes our application types based on the prospective student’s academic background, educational goals, and enrollment history
Degree Seeking
Candidates who seek admission to earn a degree at the undergraduate (UG) or graduate (GR) level from Marietta College. Students admitted within this category are further identified in one of the following subcategories:
- Undergraduate Freshman: For individuals seeking admission to Marietta College who have either not yet earned any college credits or have earned college credits only through the end of the summer immediately following their high school graduation.
- Graduate: For individuals seeking admission to a graduate program at Marietta College who have not earned any graduate-level credits since completing their undergraduate or professional degree.
- Transfer (Undergraduate or Graduate): For individuals seeking admission to Marietta College who have previously earned college credits at another institution, whether as an undergraduate or graduate student.
- Readmission/Returning (Undergraduate or Graduate): For former Marietta College students who wish to return after a break in their enrollment lasting one or more semesters.
- Continuing Education (Undergraduate): For individuals seeking admission to Marietta College to enroll in undergraduate courses on a part-time, commuter basis. Additional details and restrictions for this category are provided in the Continuing Education section of the catalog.
- Second Degree (Undergraduate or Graduate): For individuals seeking admission to Marietta College to pursue a second baccalaureate or graduate degree in a field different from their initial degree.
Non-Degree Seeking
Candidates who seek admission to take courses for academic credit as a part-time student, but with no intention to earn a degree from Marietta College (MC). Non-degree status may limit a student’s course selection and financial aid options. Students admitted within this category are further identified in one of the following subcategories:
- Transient Students: For individuals currently enrolled at another institution who wish to take undergraduate or graduate courses at MC temporarily, with the intention of transferring the credits back to their home college or university.
- Post-Baccalaureate/Licensure: For individuals who have already earned a bachelor's degree and seek to enroll in undergraduate courses at MC for purposes such as obtaining licensure or fulfilling prerequisites for another degree program.
- Personal Enrichment: For individuals interested in taking academic courses at MC solely for personal growth and enrichment, without pursuing a degree.
- Continuing Education (Undergraduate): For individuals seeking admission to Marietta College to enroll in undergraduate courses on a part-time, commuter basis. Additional details and restrictions for this category are provided in the Continuing Education section of the catalog.
- College Credit Plus: High School: For high school students who have not yet graduated but wish to take MC undergraduate courses on the MC campus for college credit.
- College Credit Plus: Dual Enrollment: For high school students who have not yet graduated but seek to take MC undergraduate courses offered at their high school, earning both college and high school credit.
- WSCO2MC: For Washington State College of Ohio students with fewer than 25 earned credit hours who wish to take one MC course per term at the WSCO rate, gaining access to MC resources and, optionally, MC residence halls (additional fees apply).
