The mission of the Department of Sports Medicine is to prepare students for the Master of Athletic Training program. To this end, Marietta College has approved a 3+2 program (Bachelor of Science/Master of Athletic Training). Marietta College has been approved by the Ohio Department of Higher Education and the Higher Learning Commission anticipates obtaining CAATE approval for the Masters in Athletic Training in Spring 2020. In the interim, Marietta College remains accredited by CAATE, allowing students to begin undergraduate study in the Sports Medicine (BS) program.
Admission into the Masters of Athletic Training Program
Pending CAATE approval, students who pursue a Sports Medicine major and maintain the requirements outlined by the dual program will be able to apply for the Master of Athletic Training Program during the fall of their junior year. Students will interview and learn of their acceptance at the end of the spring semester of their junior year.
Students accepted into the MAT program will begin taking graduate work in the senior year, with graduate credit being applied toward the remaining 120 hours required for the Bachelor of Science degree, including the capstone. A total of 59 hours of graduate work is required for the Master of Athletic Training degree. Both degrees will be conferred at the end of the 5 years.
Students maintaining grades in the sports medicine program but not wanting to continue into the MAT program can switch majors or complete the B.S. in Sports Medicine capstone and remaining requirements for graduation.
Full admission and program details will be available in the 2020-2021 College Catalog with the first class enrolling in Fall 2021.
