About

The Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.) is a clinically rich, graduate-level teacher preparation program leading to Initial Certification in Childhood Education (grades 1-6) in the student’s undergraduate area of study. Designed for post-baccalaureate candidates seeking entry into the teaching profession, the program integrates graduate coursework in curriculum, learning theory, inclusive pedagogy, literacy, and methods with structured field experiences, including a 100-hour multicultural practicum and two seven-week student teaching placements. Candidates complete a Professional Inquiry Project aligned with the New York State Teacher Performance Assessment. The program may be completed in one academic year (Fall, J-Term, Spring). Candidates may complete the M.A.T. in Childhood Education (grades 1-6) or Adolescent Education (grades 7-12).
