PUBH 141 Healthcare Ethics
Our focus in this course will be on the experience and practice of healthcare from an ethical point of view. What responsibilities do those in clinical contexts have to those under their care? What roles do mutual understanding and compassion have? We will consider a number of issues in bio-ethics (euthanasia, consent, human-subject research, pandemic ethics, etc), but with special attention to the experience of those involved. Our central question will be: what kind of care do we owe each other in medical contexts? The course is organized around several readings and a series of films. No textbook required.
