PUBH 390 Public Health Research Methods
This course will introduce the philosophical and theoretical principles of research and provide a foundation for conducting scientifically sound and ethical research. The course will present approaches for conducting quantitative, qualitative and mixed methods research in public health. Key research concepts such a formulating research questions, research design, measurement issues, data collection and analysis, and bias will be addressed. Strategies for engaging stakeholders (individuals, providers, community leaders, politicians and policymakers) to address complex public health challenges and use evidence-based research to drive programs and policies will be examined. The course aims to equip participants with the tools and skills to evaluate the methodological rigor of research articles and develop a research proposal to address a public health problem.
