INT750 Introduction to Research in Translation and Interpreting Studies
This course is an introduction to research in the interdisciplinary field of Translation and Interpreting Studies (TIS). The course is designed for early-stage researchers as well as experienced practitioners in translation and/or interpreting. In this course, students will engage in a survey of theories, methodological approaches, and analytical frameworks that have shaped the field. Through engagement with seminal texts and contemporary research in the field, students will learn how to critically evaluate research designs, formulate research questions, and draft literature reviews. Research ethics in signing communities will figure prominently in the course as students develop their own positionality statements as beginning researchers. This course serves as the entry point to advanced study and original research in TIS.
Prerequisite
Acceptance into the M.A. in Interpretation program or permission of the instructor.
