BIO 224 Field Natural History
This course will focus on the flora and fauna of the Appalachian region, with an emphasis on the natural history and life histories utilized by organisms of this ecoregion. Emphasis will be placed on elucidating macroevolution mechanisms that resulted in the elevated biodiversity rates observed in eastern North America, and learning proper usage of field guides and natural history data recording. Environmental and cultural issues that limit the regions natural history will be discussed. Class will include readings, videos, lectures, and field excursions to local and distant regions of the Appalachian Mountains.
