Program Overview
The role of marketers is to identify and assess consumer and industrial market needs. Through innovative analytical research methods, marketing managers study cultural, social, economic, and environmental factors that can have an effect on product or service development. Based on this, marketers develop and manage marketing programs, including developing new products and services, promotion campaigns, distribution, and pricing appropriate to the targeted market opportunities.
If you are sociable, creative, analytical, and enjoy working with teams, you can expect a vibrant career in, for example, advertising, brand management, business development and sales, research and analytics, retail management, public relations, or digital marketing.

- Student must complete all 18 hours of Business Foundation Courses, and a minimum of 27 credit hours in the Core Curriculum including ECON 2301, before applying to VCoBE.
- Grades of ‘C’ or better in all Business Foundation courses.
- A minimum 2.6 GPA in the combined Core Curriculum, Business Foundation Core, and in any of the following completed advanced courses: BLAW 3337, QUMT 3341, MARK 3300, and MGMT 3361. This GPA calculation will include transfer coursework.
- All students pursuing a Bachelor’s degree from VCoBE, must apply for and be admitted to VCoBE before they are allowed to enroll in the Advanced Major coursework for their degree.

Core Curriculum - 42 hours
The Core Curriculum serves as a broad foundation for the undergraduate degree. All candidates for a bachelor’s degree must achieve core student learning outcomes, including communication, critical thinking, empirical and quantitative skills, teamwork, personal responsibility and social responsibility, by completing courses within each category or component area of the Core Curriculum as outlined below.

Students seeking the most efficient way to complete the core curriculum and major or minor requirements are advised to take approved courses that can fulfill both requirements. Although core curriculum courses can also be used to fulfill major or minor requirements, earned credits hours are only applied once.

UTRGV Roadmaps are a suggested sequence of courses designed to assist students in completing their undergraduate degree requirements. This is a term-by-term sample roadmap of courses required to complete the degree. Students must satisfy all requirements in their catalog including, but not limited to course prerequisites, grade point average and course grade benchmarks, progression requirements, and graduation requirements.
Students should meet with their academic advisor every semester to discuss their individualized path toward completion.
