SOCW 6392 Social Work Ethics and Values

This course is designed to examine social work values in the context of ethical decision making in social work practice. Students will learn to apply principals, techniques and tools that can be used for ethical assessment and decision making. They will learn to recognize ethical issues in social work practice and will examine how values affect decision making. They will learn to consider competing arguments in resolving ethical dilemmas as well as the strengths and limitations of their own position in order to reach thoughtfully reasoned conclusions. Special emphasis will be placed on ethical practice in the child welfare arena.
