PAFF 6350 Introduction to Urban Planning

This course introduces students to the principles of planning and the origins of planning practices in the United States. Students learn the various concepts and theories that inform planning, practice, and implementation. Planning specializations and conflicts in planning are explored and analyzed. Theoretical debates, planning challenges that planners encounter within different subfields, and problem-solving strategies in different institutional contexts are discussed, evaluated, and exercised. Students analyze planning as a tool for resolving conflicts and addressing public-private sector needs in society.
