SPEC 296 Bandolier Bag
This course introduces students to the traditional practice and history of the Anishinabe bandolier bag or gashkibidaaganag, which were created, produced, and utilized on the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa (TMBCI) reservation during the turn of the century as well as contemporary use at dance (niimi win) celebrations. Students will be guided step by step, beginning with creating and completing their own Bandolier Bag. Instruction also includes the traditional practice of designing an Ojibwe floral, as well as applique stitch beadwork, loom beadwork and hand-stitching of the bias tape and finally the assembling the finished bag. Documentary notes and diagrams of each stage of the process will be required.
