Program Description

This certificate provides the opportunity for the student to begin their journey to being able to converse in Ojibwe. It provides a foundation in speaking, reading, writing and understanding the Ojibwe language and provides a strong foundation in preparation for the Associates Degree in Anishinaabe Language (AA) and /or the Bachelor of Arts in Ojibwe Language, Culture and History.

Mission

Turtle Mountain College is committed to functioning as an autonomous Indian controlled college on the Turtle Mountain Chippewa Reservation focusing on general studies, undergraduate education, Career & Technical Education, scholarly research, and continuous improvement of student learning. By creating an academic environment in which the cultural and social heritage of the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa is brought to bear throughout the curriculum, the college establishes an administration, staff, faculty, and student body exerting leadership in the community and providing service to it.

Career Outlook

PROGRAM OUTCOMES:
1. Ojibwe language preservation and culture revitalization. The language is considered an
endangered language.
2. Provides classroom teachers with additional cultural and language knowledge to add to
their classroom.
3. Increase the number of students interested in the Associates Degree in Anishinaabe
Language (AA) and /or the Bachelor of Arts in Ojibwe Language, Culture and History.
