SPEC 296 Bandolier Bags
This course introduces students to the traditional practice and history of the Anishinaabe bandolier bag or gashkibidaaganag, which were created, produced and used on the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa (TMBCI) reservation during the turn of the century as well as contemporary use at dance (niimi win) celebrations. Instruction will included the traditional practice of designing an Ojibwe floral, as well as appliqué stitch beadwork, loom beadwork and hand-stitching, and assembly of the bag. Documentary notes and diagrams of each stage of the process will be required.
