HUS-4020 Professional Practice in Human Services
This course prepares students for real-world practice in helping professions through applied learning, self-reflection, and interdisciplinary engagement. In this course, students will strengthen communication and helping skills, explore ethical and professional decision-making, examine cultural humility and systems-level issues, and develop strategies for sustainable and effective practice across diverse settings and populations. Through simulations, discussions, reflective activities, and AI-informed learning experiences, students will connect course concepts to contemporary human services practice while building career readiness and professional identity. Throughout the semester, students will also complete a scaffolded signature assignment focused on analyzing a contemporary human services issue using micro, mezzo, and macro perspectives to develop strategies for support, advocacy, and systems-level change.
