APS-490 Engineering Technology Assessment/Career Planning
Engineering Technology Assessment/Career Planning is an in-depth, student-centered course that requires the integration of research in current engineering technology employment within each student's degree program. This course constitutes one of two Capstone requirements in each of three degree programs: Nuclear Energy Engineering Technology (NEET), Electronic Systems Engineering Technology (ESET), and Radiation Protection/Health Physics (RP/HP). Students will participate in career-focused activities that include engineering technology self-assessments within the student's selected discipline; practical career planning; development of a comprehensive curriculum vitae (CV); demonstration of successful interviewing techniques; application of advanced math applications to relevant engineering technology situations; and setting goals for professional continuous improvement in the student's chosen discipline. The knowledge and skills acquired in this course are directly applicable to students who are seeking a job, a promotion, or movement to a new skill area.
Nuclear Energy Engineering Technology Prerequisites: Completion of MAT-231: Calculus I; MAT-232: Calculus II; PHY-115: Physics I with Lab; PHY-116: Physics II with Lab; CHE-121: Chemistry I with Lab; NUC-303: Nuclear Physics for Technology; EGM-321: Thermodynamics; EGM-323: Heat Transfer; EGM-331: Fluid Mechanics; NUC-365: Reactor Fundamentals; NUC-331: Primary Reactor Systems; NUC-351: Nuclear Instrumentation and Control; NUC-412: Radiation Biophysics or NUC-413: Radiation Interaction or NUC-342: Radiological, Reactor, and Environmental Safety; ELE-211: DC Circuits or ELE-212: AC Circuits; NUC-402: Nuclear Materials; and NUC-358: Radiation Safety Laboratory.
Electronic Systems Engineering Technology Prerequisites: Completion of MAT-231: Calculus I, MAT-232: Calculus II, PHY-115: Physics I with Lab, PHY-116: Physics II with Lab, CHE-121: Chemistry I, ELE-211: DC Circuits, ELE-212: AC Circuits, ELT-306: Solid State Devices and Circuits, ELT-307: Linear and Integrated Circuits, ELD-302: Digital Electronics, ELD-311: Microprocessors, and ELC-201: Electronics Communications Systems.
