Services for Students with Special Learning Needs

In accordance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, SAU Tech is committed to providing appropriate support services for students with documented disabilities or special learning needs. The following accommodations and resources are available to eligible students:

  • Counselor Referral
Students requiring support beyond the scope of services offered by SAU Tech may be referred to the Arkansas Rehabilitation Services Office in El Dorado or to an office located in their hometown, if available.

  • Library Services
A variety of educational videotapes and computer programs are available through the library to support learning in various subject areas.

  • Tutoring Services
Tutoring is available through the library, located east of the Administration Building, and through the online platform Upswing, offering flexible access to academic support.

  • Low Vision System
The Learning Resource Center is equipped with a VTI Video Magnifier 1800 Color Auto-Focus System for students with low vision.

  • Request for Tutor/Note Taker
Students requesting a tutor or note-taking assistance must provide documentation of need from a licensed clinical professional. Services must be approved in advance.

  • Request to Record Course Lectures
Requests to record class lectures are considered on a case-by-case basis and require the instructor’s approval.

  • Testing Accommodations
Students requiring accommodations such as extended testing time, special materials, or a scribe must receive authorization for these services each semester.

Admissions Interview Recommendation
Students with special learning needs are encouraged to participate in an admissions interview to review available services and determine whether SAU Tech can meet their individual needs, or whether the student will need to arrange for external support.
