Readmission to the Practical Nursing Program
Students who voluntarily withdraw from or are dismissed from the Practical Nursing Program during the first semester due to academic failure, poor attendance, or earning a grade below a “C” (70%) may, pending seat availability, restart the program with the next available cohort. Any failed courses must be retaken.
Students seeking readmission to the first semester will have the following option for readmission to the program:
- Reapply through the competitive admission process.
- Repeat all coursework.
Students seeking readmission in the second and third semester, who have an interruption in enrollment, will have the following option for readmission to the program:
- The student will take a comprehensive reentry examination that includes both written/didactic and skills assessments.
- If the student passes the examination, they may reenter the program. However, any failed courses must still be retaken and successfully completed before graduation.
General Readmission Guidelines
- Readmission is based on seat availability within the appropriate course sequence.
- Students must request readmission within 12 months of their last successfully completed semester. Any student seeking readmission after 12 months, will have to reapply through the competitive admission process.
- Students must meet all current curriculum and program requirements in effect at the time of re-enrollment.
Maximum Time for Completion
- Students may only repeat two courses within the entire duration of the program. A third failed course will result in an automatic program dismissal, and the student is not eligible to reapply to the Practical Nursing Program at OTC.
Steps for Requesting Readmission
Submit a formal letter requesting readmission to the Practical Nursing Program Director. If approved, the student will:
- Reapply to OTC through the standard admission process.
- Complete all Financial Aid requirements.
- A readmitted student will be required to demonstrate retention of prior knowledge and skills through written and practical assessments, as outlined above, in order to register for courses.
