5.13 Web Publishing

Purpose: The college website is Normandale’s broadest reaching publication and plays a central role in enhancing the college’s reputation with all constituents. The college has established policies, governance structure, and guidelines to ensure web publishing is professional, consistent, and reflects Normandale’s mission and image. The college has designated the web strategy committee as the governing body for web strategy and web publishing.

Part 1: Definitions

  1. Web Publishing. The website www.normandale.edu is the primary website of the college. This policy pertains to the college’s external website that can be accessed by anyone with access to the World Wide Web.
  2. Domain Name. The college’s primary domain name is www.normandale.edu. Sub-domains may exist such as catalog.normandale.edu. This policy pertains to the creation of Normandale’s sub-domains as well.
  3. Web Strategy Committee. The Web Strategy Committee is a subcommittee of the Technology Policy Council. The Web Strategy Committee establishes standards for the use, operations, and policies associated with Normandale’s website, including the use of sub-domains.
  4. Content Providers. Employees designated as contributors or approvers to develop, author, update, and, if assigned, approve designated web content for the primary Normandale Community College website.

Part 2: Responsibilities

Subpart A: Web Strategy Committee. This committee is responsible for establishing, revising, and overseeing implementation of and compliance with Normandale’s web policies and guidelines. It has authority for the structure and content of the top-level and secondary pages of the primary website, and authority for the structure for the remaining pages. This committee has the right to initiate the removal of inappropriate content and ‘rogue’ sites that do follow established policies and guidelines or may damage Normandale’s image and reputation. This committee is authorized to define permissions granted to all web content providers.

Subpart B: Marketing Communications. The Marketing Communications Department is responsible for the presentation of content on Normandale’s website. Marketing Communications is responsible for establishing, maintaining, and enforcing adherence to various style guides. Marketing Communications is also responsible for maintaining content on newsroom.normandale.edu and other marketing secondary domain sites.

Subpart C: Information Technology. Information Technology Services (ITS) is responsible for the establishment and enforcement of policies that relate to providing stable, functional, and secure internally hosted websites which include server configuration, security configuration, permissions, domain name registration, etc.

Subpart D: Content Providers. Content providers are responsible for receiving training and following established guidelines. Content contributors are responsible for providing accurate and up-to-date information. Approvers are responsible to perform a review the content provided by content contributors for accuracy and quality.
