Purpose: This procedure provides guidance on the college’s implementation of Policy 4.4 Workplace Violence and informs employees on the process of reporting incidents in violation of that policy.
Part 1: Action Plan
The Department of Public Safety maintains an emergency response plan and coordinates regular training for students and employees that addresses what to do in the event of an incident of violence at the college. Public Safety will work with appropriate college partners, such as Human Resources and the Bias Response Team, to develop strategies and action items for recovering from such an event.
Part 2: Notification
When they became aware of actions that violate this policy, all employees have the responsibility to immediately notify at least one of the following: their supervisor, the Chief Human Resources Officer, the Director of Public Safety, or any Vice President of the college.
Part 3: Responsibilities
All employees are responsible for ensuring a safe workplace. Administrators and supervisors have primary responsibility for monitoring and resolving employee conflicts or disputes, and for taking appropriate corrective action when potentially violent situations develop.
The Vice President of Administration or their delegate will assume responsibility for coordinating the college response to reports of workplace-related threats and acts of violence. The Associate Vice President of Operations and Director of Public Safety will serve as the college contact persons with law enforcement authorities. The Chief Human Resources Officer will work with administrators and supervisors to take appropriate disciplinary action against employees who violate the policy. The Vice President of Student Affairs will assume responsibility for administering student disciplinary action against students who violate this policy.
